Everyone loves a birthday party, and Jackie is no exception! It was one particular party at Archie’s in South Side however that our story begins. Jackie’s friends were planning on celebrating Steve’s birthday, and as a lover of birthday parties, Jackie didn’t let the fact that she didn’t actually know Steve stop her from joining in! They met that night through their mutual friends and immediately hit it off!
Their first date started with a bit of a hiccup, as Jackie accidentally gave Steve the wrong directions to her house! Luckily Steve left a bit early and was still able to pick her up on time. They enjoyed a wonderful meal at Nakama, where they spent the rest of the evening watching the Penguins game.
Jackie and Steve love spending time with their family and friends, going to sporting events, trying new restaurants, and going to the movies together. When I asked what Jackie loves most about Steve, she said the way he makes her laugh, his laugh, and his endless faith in his family and friends!
On December 23rd, Steve told Jackie that he had made reservations for the two of them at Il Pizzaiolo in Market Square. When they arrived downtown, they decided to walk to the beautifully decorated Christmas tree to get a quick picture before sitting down to eat. Jackie remembers that “as we walked to the tree, he mentioned our relationship, our ups and downs, and how we always got through it together”. There was another family who asked if Jackie wouldn’t mind taking their picture, and they returned the favor by taking Jackie and Steve’s picture. As Jackie turned to grab her jacket so they could head to dinner, Steve pulled her in for a kiss then unexpectedly knelt down on one knee!
Their family and friends were unbeknownst to Jackie hiding nearby and witnessing the whole proposal! As soon as she said “YES!”, there were hugs all around by all their loved ones! But the story doesn’t end there, as soon as the congratulations were exchanged, Jackie discovered that not only was the “dinner reservation” a ploy to get her to Market Square where Steve could ask her in front of the lit Christmas tree, but that there in fact was no dinner plan at all! Jackie told me that “instead, we had the best Primanti’s sandwich, ever!”
Jackie and Steve planned to have their wedding ceremony at the gorgeous St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland with an absolutely stunningly elegant reception at The Pittsburgh Field Club to follow. The week before the wedding, regardless of how many times I clicked refresh on my internet browser, the weather for Saturday reloaded each time with the same disappointing 90% chance of rain forecast. Living in Pittsburgh now for almost 5 years, I’ve learned to take the weather forecast with a grain of salt. However, with the unchanging 90% prediction of rain for almost the entirety of the week, it wasn’t looking good. Plan B covered portrait locations were chosen, clear umbrellas were purchased, and the quiet disappointment was accepted. Apparently it was unavoidably going to rain. All day.
But fast forward to the BIG day, and as the ceremony time approached, there was one thing missing… and no one missed it!! The sun was out in all it’s glory and although it was hot, no one complained! Not only were we able to travel to all the original requested portrait locations, but we were also able to sneak out for the last few minutes before the sun dipped below the horizon for a few end of the night portraits! Jackie and Steve had an elegant timeless wedding styled with a muted lavender, gray, and silver color palette that oozed romance! See below for a few of my favorites from their special day!
