He took her to a haunted cemetery the evening of their first date. If “romantic” wasn’t one of the first words in your mind after reading that sentence, you are probably not alone. But you would be wrong, because in one of the most important ways, it was simply just that. You see, Brian listened. He listened when Lauren casually mentioned months earlier that she and her college friends liked to explore a haunted cemetery at night. It was just a simple comment made in passing one time, and yet it stuck with Brian. And not only did Brian really listen when Lauren talked, but he created a memorable evening custom tailored just for her!
Lauren described the date by saying “he took me for dinner and then we drove around and ended up at this haunted cemetery near his house. You are probably thinking, ‘Wow… he took her to a cemetery on the first date? That’s creepy!!’ And it was a little, BUT… it was crazy he had remembered that and it was actually really cool! He admitted to me later he was just trying to get me scared so I would hold his hand!” Sometimes it’s the thoughtful gestures like taking your date to a haunted cemetery that make all the difference!
Lauren and Brian are the sweetest people and the cutest couple! They met while Lauren was attending school at Duquesne University where her friends had started connecting with other students through different apps. Lauren was skeptical about using that technology to meet others, but was soon convinced to give it a try too. When Lauren and Brian found each other through the app, they immediately discovered lots of common interests! They started talking on the phone more frequently and texting back and forth throughout the day. Lauren laughed when she discovered Brian was also persuaded by his friends to try the app, and was originally just as resistant as she had been! Good thing they both were both open to trying new things! Within a few months of phone calls and texting, they became very close and decided it was about time to meet in person!
After their memorable first date, Lauren and Brian started spending a lot more time together and found a mutual love of the outdoors. One of their favorite things to do is go to Brian’s family’s camp where they spend time together fishing and boating. They also love discovering new restaurants, binge watching TV shows, and hosting their friends for game nights at their house.
When I asked Lauren what she loves most about Brian, she had a hard time narrowing it down! She said “if I had to pick just three things, I would say his caring side that surprises me every day, his understanding nature and how he is able to empathize and be so very thoughtful, and his traditional values and ethics that remind me of how well he was raised and how great of a husband and father he will be!”
So how did this incredibly thoughtful guy pop the BIG question you might ask? In the most perfect way! The two were headed to Bethany Beach for a vacation with Brian’s family. His cousin, who was in on the planning, had casually mentioned that she wanted her fiancé, Lauren, and Brian to take some pictures on the beach at sunset. Lauren said “before I knew it, Brian was down on one knee, said he wanted to spend forever with me, and asked me to marry him! I was so surprised! And it was so perfect!”
Since Lauren and Brian really enjoy fishing, boating, and the outdoors, what better place to have their engagement session than beautiful North Park?! We were blessed with an absolutely gorgeous fall day and I had such a blast exploring the park and photographing these two sweethearts. I absolutely loved having the opportunity to get to know them better and can’t wait to be a part of their romantic rustic wedding at Bramblewood next August! See below for a few of my favorites from their engagement session, and stay tuned for more images of this wonderful couple next summer!
